With the holidays fast approaching, the subject of family comes up a lot, and in the world of Hollywood, perhaps no other franchise embodies the meaning of family more than The Fast and the Furious. Since 2001, the saga has shown time and time again that you don’t have to be blood to be welcomed into Dom’s world, and in the case of Jason Statham’s character of Deckard Shaw, you can go from being a heated rival to having a seat at the Toretto table if you prove yourself worthy. Statham made his first appearance in the series back in 2013’s Fast & Furious 6, and has been a mainstay in the franchise ever since, with his latest appearance being in last year’s Fast X, which lands a new streaming home later this month.
On Nov. 15, Fast X will move from its current streaming home on Prime Video over to Peacock, where it first made its debut back in September 2023. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the film was produced on a budget of $378 million, and managed to gross $715 million at the box office during its theatrical run, making it the sixth highest-grossing entry thus far. In terms of where it falls on the timeline, Fast X serves as a direct sequel to F9, and is the 11th installment in the series overall when you include the spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw.

The Stath brings the fight to Vin Diesel and his family.
Picking up two years after the events of F9, Fast X sees Dom’s past come back to haunt him when Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) shows up looking for revenge over the death of his father, Hernan, who was killed by Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) back in 2011’s Fast Five. With the team split, a few members head to London seeking Shaw’s help in their fight against Reyes, but not before he and Han (Sung Kang) settle a little piece of unfinished business.
Will Jason Statham Return for Fast X – Part 2?
The relationship between the Shaw and Toretto families is complicated, to say the least. It’s revealed in Fast & Furious 6 that Deckard was the one responsible for supposedly killing Han in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and after Dom put his brother Owen into a coma, he goes looking for revenge in Furious 7, going so far as to blow up the Toretto home. It’s a janky timeline conversion that explains everything if you’d been keeping up with the saga, but essentially, the fourth, fifth and sixth films are set before the events in Tokyo Drift until they all converge together in the post-credits sequence of Part 6. It’s a lot to follow, we know.
That being said, Deckard and Dom eventually put aside their differences and join forces to fight a common enemy: Cipher. All that leads to Shaw saving Dom’s son, earning himself a seat at the Toretto table. Like we said at the beginning, you don’t have to be blood to be family. Of course, that begs the question: will Statham return as Deckard Shaw in Fast X – Part 2, which is supposedly the last film in the main franchise?
While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Universal, all signs point to yes in regard to Statham’s return, though in what capacity is anyone’s guess right now. While he did play a major role in parts seven and eight, he only had a cameo in F9 before his return in Fast X. With plot details being kept under wraps, Shaw’s role in the grand finale remains a mystery, but we’ll be sure to follow things as cameras start rolling at some point in 2025.
