Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis are toplining The Trip thriller for director Jorma Taccone.
The 87North and XYZ Films project also stars Paul Guilfoyle and Keith Jardine and has started production in Finland. The Trip sees Segel and Weaving play a dysfunctional couple who travel to a remote cabin to reconnect but secretly plan to kill each other.
Taccone is part of the sketch comedy group The Lonely Island along with childhood friends Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer. He co-wrote and directed the Saturday Night Live spinoff film MacGruber, and with Schaffer directed the musical comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which he also co-wrote and co-starred in with Schaffer and Samberg.
Segel’s credits include the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking and the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Weaving is best known for her starring role in the thriller Ready or Not, and also has credits for The Valet, Scream VI, Nine Perfect Strangers, Chevalier, Borderline and Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri.
Olyphant starred as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in FX’s Justified and Justified: City Primeval and also recently appeared in the TV series Full Circle and Daisy Jones. He will next be seen in Alien: Earth for FX and the Netflix action thriller Havoc. Lewis starred in Yellowjackets and Welcome to Chippendales, in addition to iconic roles in Natural Born Killers and Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear, for which she received an Oscar nomination.
Guilfoyle is best known for his role in L.A. Confidential as Mickey Cohen, and Jardine has appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and Ric Roman Waugh’s Shot Caller.
XYZ is financing The Trip and producing alongside 87North’s Kelly McCormick, Lee Kim and Guy Danella. Taccone and Tommy Wirkola are executive producing, with Karen Gillan co-producing.
The script for The Trip was adapted by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney from Wirkola’s Norwegian thriller, I Onde Dager, which starred Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie and was written by Wirkola, John Niven and Nick Ball.
I Onde Dager was produced by Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg for 74 Entertainment and was financed by XYZ along with IPR.VC. Rosenberg and Omberg are also executive producing The Trip.
