Jane’s Addiction might really be coming to an end this time.
The band’s tech, Dan Cleary, recently confirmed in a statement that Perry Farrell once again attacked his bandmate, Dave Navarro, this time backstage. Cleary has worked as the bass and guitar tech for the band for 17 years and discussed the incident in the latest episode of Rare Form Radio.
“The three worst shows [of the tour], this man was clearly f*cked up, and we knew it from the moment we saw him earlier in the day [in Boston],” he said. “He thinks they’re talking about him, which they are, but not in the way he thinks. They’re trying to figure out how to fix this stuff… So he goes over and starts screaming lyrics at them, which was just strange.”
“Eventually Dave walks up to ask what the f*ck happened, and Perry punches him again […] I feel for [Farrell] because something is going on mentally. He looked crazed,” the tech added. Clear also stated, “I know this band is over with, but I really do hope that he’s able to figure [things] out.”
The band canceled all upcoming shows and went on a hiatus earlier this month after Farrell punched Navarro in Boston on September 13 during the North American leg of their reunion tour. Fans thought the band was over after the bandmate’s fight on stage.
Farrell’s bandmates said the vocalist’s ‘mental health difficulties’ left them ‘no alternative’ but to part ways for their own safety. Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau, said in a statement that the singer lashed out due to frustration over the mix ‘drown[ing] out’ his voice, as well as issues with ‘tinnitus and a sore throat.’ The singer apologized for his actions, saying, “I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
According to Cleary and Rare Form Radio host Todd Newman, it felt like Farrell ‘quit the band’ before Jane’s Addiction’s 2024 North American tour began in Las Vegas on August 9.
Cleary claimed that Farrell wanted to show videos of his wife and other women dancing on the backdrop during performances, and he was upset when his bandmates rejected the idea. Newman mentioned that Etty Lau was at the Las Vegas concert, yelling in a public area about how Perry was going home and the tour was over.
Now Jane’s Addiction is one step closer to breaking up, even though they have an album ready to be released. The band recently released the second song called ‘True Love’ from their upcoming album.
