Academy Award-winning actress reacted to the news that Donald Trump won the 2024 election by with fans.
Curtis on the morning of Nov. 6, sharing a drawing of an American flag and an eagle that read, “You Flag and my flag, The Flag that flies above; The nation where we work and live, The country that we love.”
She started by saying, “So the results are in. Many will be celebrating, possibly even gloating over their victory. Many will be stunned and sad with the terrible feelings of the loss.”
“That is the same result despite who wins because that’s what America and democracy looks like. Has always looked like. So what does it mean?” Curtis continued. “It means a sure return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time. Many fear their rights will be impeded and denied.”

The Halloween actress also talked about minority groups, LGBTQ+ people, women and more people who are “afraid” after seeing the results.
“For all those people there will be those who will help you. Me included,” Curtis said. “But what it really means is that we wake up and fight…one day at a time. One fight at a time. One protest at a time.”
The 65-year-old declared, “That’s what it means to be an American. That’s what it has always meant and will always mean regardless of the outcome.”
She concluded, “Be gentle with people today. Be gentle with yourself today. Feel your feelings today but most of all…..Be an American today.”
Fans shared appreciation for Curtis’ note of encouragement, such as one who commented, “You’re the best, Jamie. We always fight. 💪.”
“Thank you for this. I needed to read this,” said another.
