“I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,’” the Oscar-winning actor says in a trailer for ‘Jamie Fox: What Had Happened Was…,’ set to bow globally on Dec. 10.
Jamie Foxx has teased his upcoming Netflix comedy special that is set to explain his mysterious medical complication last year.
In a brief trailer revealing the special’s premiere date that dropped on Friday, Foxx explains, “I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I can stay alive.” The exact details of Foxx’s medical issue in 2023 have not been fully released publicly.
Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… will premiere globally on the streaming platform on Dec. 10.
During the teaser trailer, a curtain goes up to reveal a shadowy figure on a concert stage, presumably Foxx, with the words “I’m back!” echoing in the background.
Foxx was hospitalized for a “medical complication” in April 2023, but few details to explain the health scare have been heard publicly from the Oscar-winning actor. In a July 2023 Instagram post, Foxx shared his appreciation for his sister and daughter and their support throughout his health recovery, and insisted they “saved my life.”
“First of all, I wanna say thank you to everybody that’s prayed, man, and sent me messages. I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” Foxx added. The actor’s daughter Corinne in April 2023 first revealed Foxx was hospitalized, but “already on his way to recovery” while filming the Netflix movie Back in Action in Atlanta.
At the time, she didn’t provide many details on his health condition after the mystery illness and medical complication.
Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… is directed by Hamish Hamilton and comes from Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted. The executive producer credits are shared by Foxx, Datari Turner, Marcus King, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Hamilton and Katy Mullan.
