In the newest episode of The Metallica Report, frontman James Hetfield shared one of his greatest joys in life beyond his band.
While Hetfield was talking about how he came up with the logo for the band’s All Within My Hands foundation, he shared the ‘best feeling in the world’:
“As corny as that sounds, there’s not really a better feeling in this world than helping someone else and doing it without telling about it. There is something fantastic about that. It goes against everything that humans are — ‘I need this. You give me that. I need to take this.’”
The frontman also shared the best thing he has learned even though it’s the ‘corniest’:
“Especially growing up in a band that was struggling, fighting for the only towel in the motel, or whatever it is, or ‘there’s a can of food there. I better get mine or else.’ Just that sparseness mentality and having that key unlock it to be completely the opposite. Out of everything you’ve learned, despite everything I’ve learned, the corniest saying ‘it’s better to give than receive’ is so true.”
A Special Show Is Coming
All Within My Hands is a non-profit organization set up by Metallica and their team. It works on building communities by helping with job education, fighting hunger, and supporting other local needs. All donations go directly to the local organizations they support.
Metallica also announced they will be wrapping up another great year of shows with a big charity event fresh off their European tour as part of the ‘M72 World Tour.’ The band and All Within My Hands Foundation are hosting the fourth Helping Hands Concert & Auction, set to take place at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater on December 13.
While the full lineup hasn’t been announced yet, Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the event, and it’s likely Metallica will have something special planned for the occasion.
