James Hetfield is certain that the ‘Unforgiven’ saga will go on until the day he dies.
On a recent episode of The Metallica Report podcast, the frontman revealed whether or not the band would write another ‘Unforgiven’ song. He said:
“I’m not dead! I’m not dead yet, so it’s not finished. I don’t know if we’re going to have ‘Unforgiven XII’ or not. I don’t know. If I say I know then it’ll be different.”
He then shared the meanings of each song:
“‘Unforgiven III’ is obviously about self-forgiveness and I didn’t have any of that, especially in the first one. ‘II’ was kind of the middle ground. ‘Unforgiven III’ [was about] ‘How can I forgive you if I can’t forgive myself?’ That is kind of the wrap-up to that, but there could be more. I don’t know.”
Metallica’s Deep Cuts They Want To Perform
In another part of the podcast, Hetfield mentioned two deep cuts the band often discusses adding to their setlists: ‘The Frayed Ends of Sanity’ and ‘Dyers Eve’ from their album, ‘…And Justice For All.’ He said of the songs and why they haven’t added the songs to their setlist recently:
“We have played them in the past, and they’ve come up here and there. I think it’s just more of a… I don’t know, a talent check with each other? Like, ‘Can you play this song?’”
