James Blunt has named his favorite songs for special occasions in a new interview with The Guardian — and one of these songs is among the few his children can listen to.
“‘Back in Black’ by AC/DC, because I am only playing my children 80s guitar bands,” the musician answered when asked about the song that gets him up in the morning. “They have a choice of Europe, AC/DC, Survivor, and Alice Cooper. They don’t know there’s anything else out there. I just find it amusing on the school run. I’ve always wanted to be a rock star. I wanted to have long hair and play the electric guitar and be in a band. But to be in a band, you need friends. So I’ve ended up with an acoustic guitar and a tear.”
While Blunt raises his children on a strict diet of 80s rock bands, he has a few favorite rock songs himself.
“That song really encapsulated everything. Sonically, it was just a very exciting sound. As it turns out, I turned into a pop star instead of a rock star and I don’t sound anything like Alice Cooper. But the dream was there,” he explained in another interview, mentioning Alice Cooper’s ‘Poison’ as one of his favorites.
Another favorite was the good old ‘Where Is My Mind’ by Pixies. “What I’m drawn to with music is when it’s not about perfection, but it’s honesty and genuine expression of emotion. To feel someone else’s emotion is a magical moment,” he explained what he loved about the song.
Blunt also said he has covered the song many times and can’t stop because he loves it so much.
