Jack White is now on TheShockNews of musicians whose music was used by Trump without permission.
White shared a screen record of a video shared on X. In the video, Trump walks to a plane to depart from Michigan and Wisconsin while The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ plays in the background.
“Oh… Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” White wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. “Law suit coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your 5 thousand others.) Have a great day at work today Margo Martin. And as long as I’m here, a double f*ck you DonOLD for insulting our nation’s veterans at Arlington you scum. You should lose every military family’s vote immediately from that if ANYTHING makes sense anymore.”
The White Stripes singer is only one of many other rockers that faced the same issue. Foo Fighters, ABBA and Tracii Guns all shared their disappointments just recently. While Foo Fighters only clarified that they didn’t let Trump and his team use their music with a simple ‘no,’ Tracii Guns wrote: “Are you serious? Artists don’t want casual listeners thinking they are associated with or support things they deeply disapprove of. Has nothing to do with optics other than the optic of we are not associated with garbage.”
“Together with the members of ABBA, we have discovered that videos have been released where ABBA’s music has been used at Trump events,” ABBA’s record label Universal Music said. “We have therefore requested that such use be immediately removed and taken down. Universal Music Publishing AB and Polar Music International AB have not received any request, so no permission or license has been granted to Trump.”
Names like Sinéad O’Connor, Adele, REM, and the Rolling Stones had also asked him not to use their songs. But musicians have only had limited success in keeping politicians from using their music.
In the US, campaigns need to get a Political Entities License from BMI, which gives them access to over 20 million tracks for their rallies.
