In a new interview with Loudwire, Ivan Moody talked about a bar fight that nearly ended his career.
Five Finger Death Punch vocalist told a story from one of his bar fights while showing his tattoos:
“All of these that I had tattooed on me are actual scars on my body. This [showing his neck] was from getting in a bar fight and I picked the wrong kid to f*ck with and he pulled out a box cutter. I didn’t see it and he came at me like that, caught me right across my throat and I was like, ‘What the f*ck?’”
What Did Happen In The Rest Of The Fight?
Moody revealed the rest of the story:
“And as I put my hands up, he got me right back there. So I put my arm up and then he got me right in here [showing his abdomen]. You can’t really see it with the hair. So yeah, he ripped into me. That was pretty crazy. That’s right as I joined Death Punch. This is a true story.”
The singer recalled how his current bandmate Zoltan Bathory reacted to him at the time:
“I went into my first rehearsal with Five Finger and I had staples and f*cking stitches in my body and I walked in and Zo goes, ‘What the f*ck?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I just did it.’ He goes, You can’t be in this band if you continue to do sh*t like that.’ So I stopped. I was like, ‘No more fights. I’m out.’ And it’s a true story.”
Moody’s Struggle With Alcoholism
Moody also had trouble with alcoholism for years. In 2022, he told Loudwire he has fought to stay sober to avoid ending up like Scott Weiland and Layne Staley. He has been sober since early 2018. Moody said his drinking days were exhausting, often waking up with no memory of the night before:
“The biggest part of it is my legacy. Just seeing peers of mine, Chester included, people that fought with addiction — Scott Weiland, Layne Staley… TheShockNews goes on and on. I didn’t want to be one of those headstones where people walked by and took pictures in front of it and had some lost f*cking idea of who they thought I should be or was. It really came down to legacy. How did I want to be remembered? How did I want my kids to go through the rest of their lives answering for me? Not being proud of who their father was.”
Five Finger Death Punch just finished the European leg of their recent tour. Their headlining U.S. tour with support from Marilyn Manson and Slaughter To Prevail starts on August 2 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and runs through September 19 when it will end in Houston, Texas.
