In a new interview with Metal Hamer, Nightwish’s Tuomas Holopainen revealed whether the band stopped giving live performances.
During an earlier chat, the musician said they wouldn’t be touring for their upcoming album, ‘Yesterwynde.’ When asked if that is still the plan, he replied:
“The album is coming out in September. We’re not going to do any shows. The reasons are personal, we’re not going to go into it, but it was something that had to be done for this band to continue. There’s no bad blood between the members, nothing like that. We just have to take a long breather.”
When further pressed whether they will perform live again, or whether Nightwish is finished with touring, Tuomas responded:
“Personally, I haven’t really given it much thought. I don’t know how long the break is going to be. We just signed a multi-album deal with Nuclear Blast, so that is evidence there are going to be more albums in future. Nightwish are definitely not going to stop, so everybody stop worrying. We just need a breather from touring.”
What Did Nightwish Previously Say About Their Decision?
In April 2023, Nightwish announced they were stopping tours for now and wouldn’t tour their next album. They shared this news on social media, writing:
“After the planned shows for June 2023, we will be ‘hanging up our spurs’ for an indeterminate time, as far as live concert performances go, and won’t be touring the next album. The reasons for this decision are personal, but, we all agree, vital to the well-being and future of the band. Be assured that we still love working together, and this decision has nothing to do with Floor’s [Jansen, Nightwish frontwoman] pregnancy or our other individual projects.”
The band continued:
“However, an album of 12 new songs will see bright daylight in 2024, as will 3 music videos! The band is positively hyped beyond words over this new upcoming musical adventure. Stay tuned for updates from our legendary Nightwish band camp & studio this summer!”
Nightwish’s tenth album, ‘Yesterwynde,’ is scheduled to arrive on September 20, 2024. The first single from the record, ‘Perfume of the Timeless’ was released on May 21. The album will include 12 new tracks, all written by Holopainen.
