At the recent screening of John Wick for the 10th anniversary of the action movie smash hit, star Ian McShane heaped praise on his co-star, the late, great Lance Reddick. The actor, who was also known for roles in the likes of The Wire and White House Down, tragically died suddenly on March 17, 2023, aged 60, from coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic heart disease. McShane, who shared the stage with John Wick lead Keanu Reeves, teased the upcoming spin-off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (via Discussing Film), which will feature Reddick’s final performance and the last time audiences will see his character, Charon, share the screen with McShane’s Winston Scott.
“My relationship with Chad and Keanu, you know…I think the moment with me and Lance, because he’s no longer with us, sorry, Lance Reddick, another one that we’ll miss dreadfully. But we have Ballerina coming out for the last time the group will be able to do it together. But, yeah, I thought we made a really good double act as we say in a sense you…it was great…but his relationship is different to mine with Keanu’s character. Yeah, my moments with him I think I’ll remember.”
The crowd erupted in applause at the mention of Reddick’s name, and no doubt many are eager to see the bittersweet return of Charon in From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which is due to open in theaters on June 6, 2025.
A John Wick Documentary Is Now in the Works
The event also revealed that director Chad Stahelski is now working on a new documentary about the making of the John Wick franchise, which has become one of the most successful action franchise’s of all time since debuting with the first movie back in 2014.
“I have a few things coming up, some surprising some not. We’ve got my documentary coming out about the making of all the John Wicks so we can see it real soon.”

However, David Leitch and Erica Lee have other thoughts about the future of the John Wick franchise with Keanu Reeves.
The documentary is just one of several projects set to expand the world of John Wick. A television series, John Wick: Under the High Table, is in the works, as are an anime series and a spin-off led by Donnie Yen as the blind assassin, Caine. First up is the prequel spin-off From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which takes place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.
Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, with Chad Stahelski helming several additional scenes after Wiseman reportedly fell ill during filming, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina stars Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane alongside Ana de Armas. The spin-off will also see Keanu Reeves return as the dog-loving hitman.
