The hit HBO series Euphoria began with a bang, capturing the attention of Millennials and Gen Z alike. Since Season 2’s conclusion over two years ago, viewers have been left in anticipation of Season 3 and when we might finally get to see it. Now, the various rumors of drama behind the scenes and surrounding the airing of Season 3 have been confirmed. The third season of Euphoria was initially confirmed to begin production in December 2023, but due to difficulties, was postponed. On June 13, 2024, it was officially confirmed that the teen drama series would resume production.
Nevertheless, the highly anticipated upcoming season’s plot is still under wraps. Now, leading cast member Hunter Schafer has admitted that she was initially confused about the announcement, adding that she has “no f*cking idea” what the next season entails in an interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast. The rest of the cast appears to be in accord. As Schafer puts it:
“The real tea is I have no f*cking idea what’s going on. You can ask literally all of the cast.”

Zendaya on Euphoria’s Season 3 Fate: “It’s Beyond Me”
Zendaya, who stars in and serves as an executive producer for Euphoria, says she “is not in charge” of whether the series will return.
Euphoria Season 3 has been held up by recent strike delays and issues between Spider-Man star Zendaya and lead producer Sam Levinson. Accounts in The Hollywood Reporter have since revealed some insight into the allegations regarding a toxic workplace while Levinson was producing The Idol, which was criticized for containing misogynistic subplots.
Things between Zendaya and Levinson intensified, as Zendaya complained of Levinson dedicating too much focus on The Idol and neglecting Euphoria. Meanwhile, Levinson claimed that Zendaya was focusing more on her film career than on the show, with the actress allegedly rejecting Levinson’s preliminary script ideas for Season 3 of the show.
Politics and Emotional Turmoil Cause Delays in Euphoria Season 3 Production
Sadly, further complications arose following the tragic death of key star Angus Cloud. His untimely passing has greatly affected the cast members, including Schafer, who said:
“Obviously I’m still coming to qualms about what’s happened and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family. We’ve had deaths…I’m going to get emotional.”
Unfortunately, leading cast member Angus Cloud wasn’t the only death that affected the cast and crew members of the show. Producer Kevin Turne, who worked alongside Levinson, died suddenly last year from multiple heart complications.
Schafer went on to announce that she plans on leaving the television business behind once Euphoria ends. “Since moving into films, I realized I love the film format so much more,” she said in an interview with IndieWire. After getting her break on the show, Schafer recently moved on to a variety of prominent film projects, such as this year’s Kinds of Kindness and Cuckoo.
The third season of Euphoria is rumored to move away from the high school setting, following Rue’s journey through a world of drug addiction, sobriety, relationships, and finding her place in the world. The coming-of-age, Emmy Award-nominated show involves several sensitive themes, including child abuse, hookup culture, sobriety, domestic violence, and more. The concept for the show was based on Levinson’s personal experiences as a teenager involved with drug addiction and mental health issues. Although production has been confirmed, given Schafer’s recent comments, many fans are likely to remain skeptical.
