Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have managed to disappoint all those people who watched them make their unorthodox announcement about Deadpool & Wolverine just over two years ago. In a new video shared by Jackman, he is seen sitting on the same sofa that Reynolds sat on to make that very announcement, but to the dismay of thousands, even with his partner in crime present, Jackman was actually there to promote his upcoming stage show and not another outing for either Wolverine or Deadpool.
Jackman begins the video on his own, in familiar surroundings, and opens with a buildup that had many Marvel fans edging closer to the screen. Jackman says:
“A little over two years ago, Ryan sat in this very seat and announced to the world that I’d be coming back for Deadpool & Wolverine, and it was the time of my life. Ryan and I had such a great adventure together and I’ve been wondering what comes next.”
At that point, Reynolds is seen wandering across the back of the shot, heading upstairs, as Jackman continues to replicate the Deadpool & Wolverine announcement by yelling back to Reynolds, asking him if he wants to join him in New York for his new live show, From New York with Love. The video then sees Jackman boosting Reynolds’ expectations – just like the video does with all of those watching – before crushing him by admitting that he wants Reynolds there to watch him from the audience and not get on stage with him.
Hugh Jackman’s Stage Return is Great, but It’s Not Wolverine Great
For fans of Jackman, his limited engagement at Radio City Music Hall is something that they will be clamoring to try and get tickets for as the greatest showman heads back to tread the boards after his impressive summer topping the worldwide box office with Reynolds in Marvel’s biggest movie in almost three years. However, what everyone really wants to know is whether those rumors of Jackman’s continued presence as Wolverine in the MCU are true or not.
It has been suggested recently that Marvel Studios are keen to hold onto Jackman’s Wolverine as long as possible, especially following the runaway success of Deadpool & Wolverine. In short, the idea of trying to recast the character is possibly one of the toughest in movie history, and everyone wants to put it off as long as they possibly can. While it seems to have always been expected that Wolverine will have a part to play in Avengers: Secret Wars, there are some “insiders” who have claimed that Jackman is set to continue in the role even after that.

Naturally, until there is any kind of official announcement – from that sofa or an actual Marvel executive – all of this means nothing, just like Jackman’s show announcement to most of those who expected something else. But that doesn’t mean that anyone is going to be angry or genuinely upset with either star, as this is exactly the kind of self-promotion that both of them are impeccable at.
