There are three different ways to vote on ‘American Idol’
The season 22 finale is here, and it’s time to vote for the next winner.
Since its inception over 20 years ago, the ABC singing competition show has discovered a range of talent, including , and . Now, host and judges , and are witnessing another installment coming to a close as the final three contestants compete for the grand title.
Before Abi Carter, Will Moseley and Jack Blocker earned their places in the American Idol 2024 finale, though, they faced several rounds of auditions, performances and themed nights.
After season 22 kicked off in February, five rounds of auditions took place, during which time only three aspiring singers were awarded Platinum Tickets, including Abi. The latest iteration of the Golden Ticket offered the chance to skip Hollywood Week, where the pool shrank from 56 contestants to the final 24 for the Showstopper round.
Fast forward to May, the hours of practice and performances have culminated with only three contestants remaining onstage — a result of viewers tuning in each week and voting for their favorite singers.
So as you prepare to watch the season 22 finale, here’s everything to know about how to vote on American Idol, including when the process starts and the different ways to participate.
Who is in the finale of American Idol 2024?
Abi Carter, Will Moseley and Jack Blocker are in the top three, competing to win American Idol 2024.
Ahead of the season 22 finale, the final five went head-to-head during the two-part Disney Night. Abi performed “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid and “The Chain” from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Meanwhile, Jack sang “Nobody’s Fool” from Cars 2 and “Space Oddity” by . To round everything out, Will crooned “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy” from Toy Story 4 and “Born to Be Wild” from D3: The Mighty Ducks.
Triston Harper and Emmy Russell were eliminated.
When can I vote on American Idol?
Since each season of American Idol has several different rounds, airing dates and times may differ depending on the contestants’ progress. You can check the show’s website and app to find out when voting opens and closes each week.
Voting takes place during each coast-to-coast live show and closes during the last commercial break.
How can I vote on American Idol?
There are three ways to vote on American Idol: online, by and by text.
Every week, you can submit up to 10 votes for each contestant per voting method. So, you could vote for your favorite contestant 10 times online, 10 times on the app and 10 times via text, for a total of 30 votes.
If you change your mind, you can reallocate your votes until the vote closes online and on the app —just click “save” each time you make an edit.

If you’re at least 16 years old and located in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can vote online on the . You will need an ABC account, which you can sign up for with your email address.
App
If you’re a minimum of 16 years old and live within the U.S., Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can cast your votes on the American Idol app, available on and .
Once you download the app on your device, you’ll need to sign into your ABC account. If you don’t have one, you can create it with an email address.

To vote via text message, text the number of the contestant you’re voting for to 21523. Voting via text is open to all wireless carriers, and message and data rates may apply. The number for each contestant is as follows:
