Antony Starr says he isn’t ready for The Boys to end. As the fourth season of The Boys is drawing to a close – with one episode left to release on Prime Video – Starr, who plays Homelander in the show, is preparing himself for the emotional roller coaster of shooting the fifth and final season. It was only in the last two months that showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that The Boys will end with its fifth season, having said for years that he wasn’t sure how long the show would run for. The Boys has been a mainstay of the modern streaming era, producing some of the most memorable and vile superhero moments in TV history. But one of the show’s stars isn’t quite ready to hang up his star-spangled cape.
Speaking to IGN, Antony Starr discussed the show’s ongoing fourth season, and was asked to look ahead to shooting the fifth and final season of The Boys. The actor said he can’t look that far ahead yet because it will make him too emotional. Starr is currently focused on enjoying and embracing the ongoing fourth season, with the final episode streaming on July 18. Starr said:
“Oh, I can’t think of that yet. I can’t go there yet because, first of all, we’ve got a long way to go, and I want to make the most of it and enjoy it. I’m enjoying what’s happening with the show at the moment. We worked so hard on Season 4 across the board, everyone from the caterers to everyone that works in the production office to the actors, to cast, the producers, directors… Everyone’s put so much into it, so it’s great to have this very warped creature of a season come out and be released on the world.”
Antony Starr Isn’t Ready to Hang Up Homelander’s Cape
Homelander is Antony Starr’s most high-profile role to date. As the main antagonist of The Boys, Starr’s narcissistic, violent, milk-loving version of Superman, has become an internet icon, terrifying audiences and being turned into endless memes. For Starr, working on The Boys has been an amazing experience, as the show’s cast have traversed some beautiful and strange moments together, including the COVID pandemic. Starr explained:
“If I stop to think about it, it’ll be really sad. It’s been such a long road with the show. We started before COVID, and we released Season 2 in COVID. We did all the press for that in seclusion and isolation in our homes, and then all of a sudden we came back. We shot in COVID. It’s been such a ride together with this group of people that it’ll be very sad. It’ll be a sad day to hang up the spandex.”

While The Boys has become one of Prime Video’s highest rated shows, season 4 has divided the fan base, with some questioning its on-the-nose approach to the show’s signature satire.
