In a recent chat with Ultimate Guitar, Herman Li defended Machine Gun Kelly from critics.
The musician used to be obsessive with the notes, but he now thinks playing guitar is beyond that. It is also about catching the audience for him. He gave Kelly as an example and said:
“So, even players like… look, Machine Gun Kelly got so much sh*t, but I’ll tell you, he can connect with people in a certain way, that if I do a fast guitar solo, I cannot do.”
Why Did MGK Face Backlash?
MGK received criticism for many reasons. His transition from rap to pop-punk, some public feuds he was involved and controversial acts are among them. In a social media post from earlier this month, the singer posted about beating the haters. After the success of his single, ‘Don’t Let Me Go,’ he wrote:
“Never saw that coming with a song like this. Gives me faith that real music wins no matter what people thing about the artist.”
Kelly recently faced backlash after revealing his new tattoo. He also got flak for his new guitar, ‘The Razor.’ People argued about its shape. Some believed it could promote self-harm; others simply thought it looked odd. But Ronnie Radke defended him, saying on social media:
“My guy I’m not jumping on any sides here but come on, have we gotten so lost we are now complaining about a razor blade guitar cuz it might trigger people to self harm? But you turn around and give my video of me murdering people with guns a thumbs up? I like you bro, Let the man live.”
Is MGK Hated More Than Nickelback?
Another name that receives hate like Kelly is Nickelback. Still, Mike Kroeger thinks MGK is hated more than the band, as he recently told NME:
“As an addendum, I believe that, sadly, Machine Gun Kelly has now had the crown fall on his head because he’s getting pilloried by the media, and it’s terrible. It never ceases to amaze me how little people have to do to bring the hammer of public vitriol down on them. I’ve no idea what he’s done, but I guess he’s winning!”
Dragonforce just released their ninth album, ‘Warp Speed Warriors,’ and will tour the United States with Dethklok and Nekrogoblikon. The tour’s first show is on April 7.
