We spoke to Heather Graham upon the release of her directorial project Chosen Family, a comedy film she wrote and also stars in. The title lives up to its name, as Graham’s lovable lead character navigates modern romance and lasting friendships while struggling to set boundaries against her increasingly needy family. It’s the latest in a long line of projects Graham has tackled over the years, on both the big and small screen. TV audiences know her from Twin Peaks, Californication, and, of course, her standout role on the hit sitcom Scrubs — and fans have been hoping for a reboot ever since it went off the air. Graham told MovieWeb:
“I definitely would love to be in the Scrubs revival. Zach [Braff] and Donald [Faison] do a podcast called [
Fake Doctors, Real Friends
]
and we were all talking about that. And I was just like, ‘I want to go back and do more episodes of
Scrubs
!
‘ And people really do remember that show and come up to me and talk to me about it. So I would love to do that.”

Scrubs Revival Gets Surprisingly Promising Update From Creator
What has two thumbs and is excited for a Scrubs revival? This guy!
Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, is certainly very busy, having created or co-created the recent hit series Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Bad Monkey, and an upcoming HBO comedy with Steve Carell. Nonetheless, he really wants to get a Scrubs reboot off the ground. The main problem is contractual, as Deadline reports:
“The main obstacle for the
Scrubs
follow-up has been working out an agreement with Warner Bros TV, where Lawrence is under an exclusive overall deal, for him to be able to work on the reboot as
Scrubs
is produced by Disney’s 20th Television.”
“I think it’s getting really close to being figured out, and I think in a good way,” Lawrence told Deadline. “Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close.”
Heather Graham Creates a Chosen Family with Julia Stiles From Real Experiences
In the meantime, Graham has just released Chosen Family and got real with us about how the idea spawned from her experience in the 12-step group known as Al-Anon. “It’s about relationships and having sort of unhealthy dynamics in relationships, and so I’ve learned a lot about myself,” she said. “And I wanted to tell a movie about… what I learned in basically Al-Anon, but make it not boring and not, you know, depressing. So I was like, ‘How do I tell about this journey I went on in a movie, and make it funny and make it entertaining but still be, hopefully, poignant and emotional?'”

Julia Stiles Shares How Heather Graham Directed Her in Chosen Family & Looks Back on Bourne
The iconic Julia Stiles stars in director Heather Graham’s new movie Chosen Family, and also dishes on her own directorial effort, Wish You Were Here.
Playing Graham’s sister in Chosen Family is Julia Stiles, who went from ’90s teen idol to an accomplished dramatic actor in films like Hustlers and the Bourne movies. “She’s done so many cool things, and I mean, to be honest, I watched her in Hustlers recently, and she’s so powerful.” She addedL
“I like that this character is really different than what she normally does, which I think she comes across as like a very together person who’s super intelligent and could kind of kick ass, you know? And so, I like that she was willing to show this side of herself where she’s kind of struggling and a mess and just, like, angry and kind of can’t get it together. I really thought she was amazing, and she’s really funny.”
