Rumors of Euphoria’s cancelation may have been exaggerated – and HBO have now set the record straight on the matter. The popular show’s third season has been a long time coming, and with several of its stars being increasingly in demand, there are many fans who believe they have more chance of seeing George R.R. Martin release his Winds of Winter novel than Euphoria’s return – and we all know how unlikely it is that book will ever see light of day.
As with any show that seems to be lost in the limbo of development hell, Euphoria fans have been questioning whether the many delays suffered by the drama series will end up being the death of it. In the last few weeks, there have been suggestions that it is unlikely Euphoria Season 3 will ever actually happen, but HBO have now stepped in to settle nerves and assure fans that the series is safe and will be coming to screens…sometime. In a statement shared by The Independent, they simply said:
Euphoria is going into production in 2025. Nothing has changed.
This is great news for those eagerly awaiting the continuation of the series, but also comes with the caveat that the new episodes will probably not be on-screen until 2026.
Why is Euphoria Season 3 Taking So Long?
The reassurance from HBO comes after many setbacks suffered by the series, which have resulted in what will be around a four-year wait between Season 2 and Season 3. While it is worth mentioning that there was a three-year gap from the show’s debut in 2019 and 2022’s Season 2 debut, that was mainly down to the Covid pandemic. The Season 3 delays have included reports of cast departures, scheduling clashes, and, of course, delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Euphoria very quickly became one of the most popular shows in HBO’s history, building a reputation as a sometimes controversial, hard-hitting look at teenage life, addiction, and trauma. An Emmy-winning performance from Zendaya as central character Rue, which was supported by capable turns by Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Barbie Ferreira, Jacob Elordi, and the late Angus Cloud, brought a lot of praise Euphoria’s way, but also caused several problems by catapulting several of its stars to the Hollywood elite.

Although HBO’s latest comments should be enough to settle some nerves over the show’s future, there are still many fans that are skeptical about ever seeing the show’s continuation as time marches on. There has already been confirmation that Season 3 will feature a time-jump, but even that requires things to get moving before the characters are well beyond the position they were in the last time we saw them, and the series’ edge is lost for good.
