Although rumors have swirled for years that a The Batman spinoff featuring Catwoman was in the works, HBO has now shut down the idea of a Zoë Kravitz-led series. After The Penguin finished its eight-episode season with a bang, many expected that the next show set in the world created by Matt Reeves would be Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. She is teased in the devastating finale, but it seems HBO is not purring for a television series covering her storyline post-The Batman.
In an interview with TV Line, HBO Chairman Casey Bloys was asked about the possibility of a Catwoman spinoff on their network, to which he answered with a blunt “No.” Despite rumors saying the contrary, Bloys denies that any such project is in the works, reaffirming that current talks with Reeves and The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc revolve around a Season 2, among other ideas. The good news is that it seems The Batman universe will indeed continue on HBO, but it will be Selina Kyle-less.
“No. We’ve been talking mostly about: Is there another story with ‘
The Penguin’
?” — though Reeves needs to get ‘
The Batman II’
done first. I have to let him get that movie set up and moving. But [Matt and
Penguin
showrunner Lauren LeFranc] work really well together, so hopefully they’ll find something that they think is exciting.”
The last time we saw Catwoman was at the end of The Batman, where she revealed she would be moving to Blüdhaven and wanted Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne to leave Gotham with her. The cat burglar left on her own, seemingly teasing that audiences would see more of her in the recognizable DC Comics location (Dick Grayson aka Nightwing is from Blüdhaven, FYI). With no TV spinoff in the works at HBO, one must think that she could still possibly cameo in The Penguin Season 2 or in another project. It’s unclear if Kravitz will appear in The Batman Part II, or if she could headline her own solo feature film, but fans should still expect to see the character again in some form, sooner or later.
‘The Penguin’ Teases Catwoman, But Why?
The Penguin finale was devastating for several reasons, and had fans crashing out over a particularly hurtful death. However, it also includes teases for the future, as it leads directly into The Batman Part II. One of those teases is Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) receiving a letter from her half-sister, Selina Kyle, while in Arkham Asylum. There is a chance this won’t be followed-up anytime soon, as a possible The Penguin Season 2 would arrive well after The Batman sequel in 2026. That said, nothing is done for no reason in Reeves’ epic crime saga.

Matt Reeves and Lauren LeFranc give a major update on The Batman Part II and The Penguin Season 2.
Unless anything changes in the timeline, The Batman Part II will likely not feature Catwoman due to the film taking place only weeks after The Penguin. It’s doubtful Selina Kyle would return from her hiatus so soon, not that she would be an unwelcomed guest. Reeves did say back in 2022 that the character was being considered for HBO, before The Penguin was even filmed. Since then, it seems the Colin Farrell-led series was the only one to get the official greenlight, while others like the Arkham spinoff remain in uncertain development.
Created by Lauren LeFranc, The Penguin is a crime-drama spin-off television series of 2022’s film The Batman. Set shortly after the events of The Batman, Oz Cobb, A.K.A. the Penguin, begins his rise in the underworld of Gotham City as he contends with the daughter of his late boss, Carmine Falcone, for control of the crime family’s empire.
