Get your 9-irons ready because Happy Gilmore 2 could be teeing off on Netflix much sooner than we all expected. Former pro-golfer John Daly has joined the cast for the unexpected, but warmly welcomed, sequel to Adam Sandler’s sports comedy, and accidentally revealed a little bit too much during a recent interview. Speaking to @TheGunzShow, Daly was asked about his involvement with Happy Gilmore 2 as it was only a few days ago that his role was publicly announced. The golfer revealed that he has already begun work on the movie saying, “I’ve already filmed it!”
While that may not come as much of a surprise, given how quickly some Hollywood projects can turnaround, Daly also revealed a tidbit of information that the movie’s PR team will likely be kicking him for. Filming hasn’t wrapped yet (at least it hasn’t been confirmed), but Daly said that we can expect to see Happy Gilmore 2 drive its way onto Netflix in the first half of next year. He said:
“[It’s] coming out on Netflix maybe in March, April of next year.”
If Happy Gilmore is as far as your golfing knowledge extends, then John Daly might be a mystery to you. But, in the golfing world, he is one of the most entertaining (which is saying something considering golf’s reputation) golfers in the sport. Similar to Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore (Christopher McDonald), Daly was known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve during tournaments, though it was mostly frustration he felt during his career. YouTube is filled with compilations of Daly losing it after missing a shot, with some believing that he was the inspiration for Happy Gilmore in the first place.
Happy Gilmore 2 Boasts an All-Star Cast
The cast of Happy Gilmore 2 keeps getting better and better. Alongside Adam Sandler, who is co-writing the script with Tim Herlihy, the legacy sequel has slowly been assembling an all-star cast of actors and sports icons. In the acting department, Sandler is joined by his old colleagues Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Ben Stiller. Joining the cast for the new sequel is Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Nick Swardson, and Margaret Qualley.
In the sports department, John Daly is also being joined by American Football player Travis Kelce, and AEW wrestler Maxwell Friedman. Adam Sandler has also confirmed that there will be some major cameos throughout the second movie, although he has yet to reveal or tease whom they could be.
Fans hope that Happy Gilmore 2 will live up to its predecessor. The original Happy Gilmore is one of Sandler’s most beloved movies, and was Sandler’s first film following his departure from Saturday Night Live in 1995. What’s most exciting is seeing what Adam Sandler will bring to the role, considering where his career is now. It’s no secret that the actor went through a slump during the ’00s and 2010s. But recent years have seen Sandler dive head-first into more dramatic roles, including the acclaimed Uncut Gems. Could we get an Oscar-worthy performance in the legacy sequel to a campy ’90s comedy?
Happy Gilmore 2
is expected to hit theaters in March/April 2025. However, this has not been officially confirmed by Netflix.
