The singer returned to the awards show following her last performance in 2016 with The Chainsmokers.
Halsey returned to the MTV Video Music Awards stage Wednesday night with a performance of her new song “Ego.”
After riding up to a house on the stage on a bicycle, the singer pulled up a garage door to reveal her band waiting inside. Halsey quickly grabbed her guitar and proceeded to rock out in the garage, performing the single off her upcoming album, The Great Impersonator.
Halsey’s return to the VMA stage comes years after her last performance at the awards show in 2016, when she teamed up with The Chainsmokers for their collab “Closer.” The “Bad At Love” singer has also previously been nominated for seven VMAs.
Earlier this year, the “Without Me” artist announced that she would be releasing her fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator, on Oct. 25. It marks her first album since 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. So far, Halsey has already released a handful of singles off the record, including “The End,” “Lucky” (which interpolates Britney Spears’ 2000 hit song of the same name), “Lonely Is the Muse” and “Ego.”
“I made this record in the space between life and death,” Halsey previously wrote on social media about the album. “And it feels like I’ve waited an eternity for you to have it. I’ll wait a bit longer. I’ve waited a decade, already.”
The 2024 VMAs, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, were held at Long Island’s UBS Arena Wednesday night. Find the complete list of winners here and all the red carpet looks here.
