Grimes voiced her support for Jojo Siwa after the criticisms she recently received.
The singer shared a TikTok video where Siwa is seen dancing to her new song, ‘Guilty Pleasure.’ While the person who posted the video wrote ‘Bye this is worse than ‘Karma’,’ referring to Jojo’s hit song, Grimes didn’t agree as she said on X:
“Truly, what the f*ck is this magnificent ogre dance. This is actually innovative. Like if she did this at a noise show the other acts would look tame and entirely unprovocative. Like Picasso, she became famous for mastering her craft and now inverts it into smthn ppl believe is. In an artistic failure, it’s simply too early and too experimental.”
Grimes Finds Jojo Brave
Then, a user left a comment under her post, saying:
“Her only problem is that she’s advertising in the wrong niche, once she consolidates her target audience, it will be interesting to see her rise.”
Grimes replied to the comment with the following words:
“I think it’s brave to walk into pop and do this, and also pair it w music like this. It’s definitely visionary and the fact that she’s doubling down on smthn so confusing fills my soul with joy. Especially because we expected her to make something cute boring and easily digestible. I have to ride for this.”
Backlash Against Siwa
Siwa’s new song ‘Guilty Pleasure’ and its choreography have been criticized by fans. Despite teasing the dance on TikTok, many viewers think it’s worse than her previous choreography, calling it awkward and comparing it to silly movements. Some even suspect she might be doing it on purpose.
In early April, Jojo debuted a new look at the iHeartRadio Awards. She wore a black and silver superhero costume and makeup that made her look like a member of KISS. Later, Gene Simmons reacted to her look, saying:
“Never be ordinary. Always be extraordinary. JoJo is extraordinary, and she looks cool.”
Later, earlier this month, Siwa released new merch that looks similar to Tool’s wrench design. Her version has some changes, like a tilted top head, ‘JOJO’ instead of ‘TOOL,’ and different bottom heads. This merch was linked to her new EP, ‘Guilty Pleasure.’
