Is any other textile more versatile or suited for experimentation than
denim? Every decade and season seems to welcome a new interpretation of the material, from varying jeans silhouettes to new standards on how to style it. (Remember when wearing denim on denim was considered a fashion faux pas?) Celebrity street style is often a telling check on which direction a denim trend is heading. If we consider recent sightings of Emily Ratajkowski’s bunny-printed denim skirt and Anne Hathaway’s half-denim half-suit, it’s clear that the needle continues to point toward innovation. But as Gisele Bündchen just proved, there’s also nothing wrong with going back to the basics.
The supermodel brought the denim skirt trend back down to earth today in New York City. En route to an appearance on The View, Bündchen cut a stylish figure in an outfit that nailed transitional winter-to-spring dressing.
The star of the show was her flared jean midi skirt, which featured a slightly asymmetrical high-low hem with raw fraying at the edges. It featured a classic light blue wash with subtle fading at the thighs, and she cozied the look up by tucking in a black turtleneck sweater and cinching it all at the waist with a black belt with gold hardware.
To coordinate, Bündchen added a quilted denim YSL bag, black leather knee-high boots with a pointed toe and stiletto heels, and a pair of thick gold hoop earrings. She finished things off with a long camel coat.
