In a new chat with Matt Pinfield of 95.5 KLOS’s New & Approved show, Geezer Butler talked about a possible Black Sabbath reunion.
When the interviewer asked if he, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, and Bill Ward had talked about doing one last Black Sabbath show with the original band members, Butler answered:
“Yeah, we’d all love it to happen, obviously, but it’s beyond our sort of control.”
The bassist’s recent comments came a few weeks after he told SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk that he was open to playing with the original Sabbath members again:
“Of course, there’s an interest [on my part to do it], but there’s a big ‘but’ — you’d have to speak to Bill about it. Everybody wants to do it [but I don’t know if he is] capable [of pulling it off].”
Ozzy Wants A Final Black Sabbath Show
In an episode of Ozzy and Billy Morrison’s internet TV show, The Madhouse Chronicles last month, Osbourne talked about making Black Sabbath’s last album, ’13.’ When asked if he was happy with how Black Sabbath ended, Ozzy said he might give it another try:
“No. Because it wasn’t Black Sabbath that finished it. It’s unfinished. If they wanted to do one more gig with Bill, I would jump at the chance. Do you know what would be cool? If we went to a club or something unannounced and we just got up and did it. We started up in a club.”
Tony Iommi’s Words On A Possible Reunion
Later, during an interview with Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Tony Iommi also spoke about the possibility of an encore:
“It’d be a nice idea, but you’re gonna get everybody going, ‘Oh, they’re doing it for the money. They’re doing it for this, they’re doing it for that.’”
He said that money wasn’t the issue and they would actually love to do it:
“Well, it wouldn’t be. I mean, it’d be something that’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows?”
Since their 2016-2017 tour with Tommy Clufetos on drums, there’s been talk of reuniting with original drummer Bill Ward. However, this reunion has not happened for various reasons. In a 2023 interview, Butler had expressed doubt about Ozzy being interested in the reunion.
