The next chapter in the story of Westeros is the Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novella by George R.R. Martin, the story takes place between the events of the Game of Thrones story and its prequel, House of the Dragon, with the action happening smack-dab in the middle of the two series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will follow Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Caffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Today, HBO announced new cast members who will be joining in on the adventure, including a brand-new Targaryen.
According to Variety, those new additions include Henry Ashton as Daeron Targaryen, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Tom Vaughan-Lawloras Plummer, and Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree. With this story set approximately 100 years after the drama of House of the Dragon concludes, this Daeron Targaryen is not to be confused with the son of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke). Just as there are numerous Aegon Targaryens, there are many Daerons.
The synopsis for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms seems to indicate a smaller and more insular story than the epics that preceded it:
A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros…a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
More Game of Thrones Spinoffs Are Coming
At a recent event in Oxford, England @westerosorg on X/Twitter reported that the mastermind behind the A Song of Ice and Fire series, George R.R. Martin, revealed that there are no less than seven spinoffs set in his fantastical world in development with HBO. Specifically excluding House of the Dragon, which already has two seasons under its belt, Martin didn’t clarify if A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was one of the series he was referencing. The series is currently filming its first season, which is expected to debut sometime in 2025.

Kit Harington returns to the world of Westeros, just maybe not the way fans were hoping.
Of the seven series that Martin mentioned, four will be animated and three will be live action. Four stories are believed to be in development, focusing on various periods in the history of Westeros and Essos. One could be a prequel to House of the Dragon and focus on the story of Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and his exploits on the seas. An animated series set in the Asian-inspired Golden Empire of Yi Ti has been in development for some time. Also rumored is a show featuring Aegon the Conqueror and his conquest of Westeros, and in active development is Ten Thousand Ships, which will focus on when the Rhoynar landed in Dorne.
It is unknown what the other two or three series could be, but there’s the possibility that two formerly scrapped projects could be picked up again. One is a continuation of the original series following Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) after he joins the free folk north of the wall. Though it’s unlikely the scrapped Bloodmoon pilot would be used as is, the story took place nearly 5,000 years before Game of Thrones during the Age of Heroes would have told the story of the Long Night and the creation of the White Walkers.
