For years now, those who grew up on Lindsay Lohan’s classic films – read, younger millennials – have been waiting for her comeback to really pick up. From festive romcom Falling For Christmas, to less-festive romcom Irish Wish (plus a brief cameo in this year’s Mean Girls musical remake) she’s been slowly but surely returning to our screens. But if there’s one thing fans have wanted more than anything else, it’s this: a follow-up to Freaky Friday (‘Freakier Friday’, anyone?), reteaming her with Jamie Lee Curtis for more pop-punk-fuelled body-swap LOLs. And that is now officially happening.
As confirmed by Disney, the Freaky Friday sequel isn’t only real – it’s officially started shooting, with Lohan and Curtis both back in action. The news was confirmed with a set photo of the pair together, comically sitting on the steps of each others’ trailers (see what they did there?) and Curtis doing her best teen-rocker devil horns.
Fingers crossed this one this one lives up to Mark Waters’ 2003 favourite – and we’ll know when it comes to cinemas in 2025. The new film (which doesn’t have a confirmed title yet) looks set to be directed by Nisha Ganatra, previously behind The High Note and Late Night. And joining the cast is Once Upon A Time In Hollywood breakout Julia Butters – who, you’d expect, may be playing the next generation of the Coleman family. Now, when are we getting a Pink Slip reunion tour?
