Frasier fans have been holding out hope that the second season the Kelsey Grammer-starring revival series could see the titular character paying a visit to a familiar old haunt: the Cheers bar. However, Grammer has now put all hopes of that to rest, as even though Season 2 could see the return of some other familiar faces from the past, it will categorically not feature the famous bar.
Fraiser Crane first appeared in Cheers in Season 3 of the long-running sitcom, and after outlasting Shelley Long’s Diane – whose rebound boyfriend he was introduced as – the therapist became so popular that he was given his own spin-off series. However, since the return of Fraiser, fans have been constantly asking whether there is a chance that Crane will drop in on the old bar and see a few old faces in the process. As Grammer told USA Today, it is not good news for the bar – as it is no longer open. Speaking about co-creator James Burrow’s stance that this is the case, Grammer confirmed:
“There’s a sense of respect that we owe him and the idea (“Frasier”) exists in another world. It’s gone, the bar is gone.”
While this now appears to finally put to bed the rumors and wishes to see the old place again, writer Kevin Levine previously shared his belief that the bar remains open, and is frequented by the same patrons it always was. At the time, Levine also shared that he believed Crane not paying at least a small visit to the bar was detrimental to the legacy of both shows.
Kelsey Grammer Is Still Open to Reuniting With Old Faces
Although the nostalgic whim of returning to Cheers is strong, the idea that after all these years the same people, and the same bar, still exist exactly as it was is pushing it a little. It has even been suggested that such a return would just end up being a sad return, showing how none of those much-loved characters have done anything with their lives since the series ended.

Of course, just because the bar has been ruled out, that doesn’t make it impossible for some of the former patrons of Cheers to reunite with Crane in Frasier. In fact, while Grammer has made it clear that he wouldn’t want the revival show to become just an endless procession of cameos, he would love to see Crane and Sam (Ted Danson) share a scene or two together at some point. Grammer also teased that one particular episode will hit the nostalgia button while speaking to previously MovieWeb:
“We have a big show [in season 2] that’s going super nostalgic. And I’m not really able to talk too much about that until it comes out, but it’s a wonderful show. And you see some people who you used to know that you’re sort of like, ‘ Oh my God, there they are! ‘ And that happens in this one show, particularly. It’s quite lovely.”
