Frances Bean Cobain has opened up about her dad Kurt Cobain’s death 30 years ago.
On April 5, it’s been 30 years since the Nirvana singer died when he was 27. His daughter shared a heartfelt message on Instagram on Friday.
Frances Bean put up a collection of pictures, including old ones of Kurt as a kid, photos of them together from ‘the last time’ they hung out, and a black-and-white photo of his hands. She mentioned that Michael Stipe from R.E.M., also a close friend of Kurt’s and her godfather, took the black and white photo. Frances wrote:
“30 years ago my dad’s life ended. The 2nd & 3rd photo capture the last time we were together while he was still alive… I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story.”
She mentioned the letter Kurt wrote her before she was born and how it affected her life:
“Kurt wrote me a letter before I was born. The last line of it reads, ‘wherever you go or wherever I go, I will always be with you.’ He kept this promise because he is present in so many ways. Whether it’s by hearing a song or through the hands we share, in those moments I get to spend a little time with my dad & he feels transcendent.”
Courtney Love Shared The Same Picture
On the anniversary of Kurt’s passing last year, Cobain’s wife shared the same picture of his hands that Frances Bean shared this Friday. The Hole singer also shared a message about her affection for them.
In her post, Love wrote:
“I love beautiful hands, it’s the first thing I look at in another. I love that the only photograph of Kurt that Michael Stipe took, despite being a lover of all sorts of beauty… Michael saw these hands.”
She also described the photo as ‘one of the few things that makes me deeply miss him’ and mentioned how much she loves and misses him.
