HBO has announced It’s Florida, Man, an unscripted late night comedy series that will be adapting and covering some of the greatest Florida-related stories ever told (and untold). The official trailer teases a cameo-filled ride that will include a bevy of comedy actors, including Jake Johnson, Anna Faris, and many more. Better yet, It’s Florida, Man will be produced by the creative team behind The Righteous Gemstones, a beloved HBO comedy series that serves as a perfect companion piece.
As one can gather from HBO’s press release (and the official trailer), It’s Florida, Man takes the craziest stories to come from the Sunshine State and puts a Drunk History twist on them. Those “Florida man” headlines most people are probably familiar with only make up part of the comedy, however. It’s Florida, Man is a self-proclaimed love letter to the people that make up the state and its most outrageous stories. As such, the series will feature reenactments by celebrity guest actors, while also interviewing real-life Floridians.
“This irreverent late-night comedy series brings to life unbelievable ripped-from-the-headlines tales of the Sunshine State – straight from the people who live there. Featuring interviews from everyday Floridians and playful recreations starring a rotating cast of actors and comedians, including Anna Faris, Jake Johnson, Randall Park, Juliette Lewis, Sam Richardson, Ego Nwodim, and more, this hilarious and outrageous series sheds light on the viral, wacky, and weird. Covering diverse topics – from mermaids to witches, extreme fantasies, and feral bunnies with equal parts humor and heart, IT’S FLORIDA, MAN. is a love letter to the beaches, backwaters, and especially the people of a misunderstood yet magical state.”
It’s Florida, Man features an all-star cast list filled with some very familiar faces from the comedy world. The six-episode series includes appearances by Anna Faris, Randall Park, Jake Johnson, Jon Gries, Sam Richardson, Ego Nwodim, Juliette Lewis, Simon Rex, and more. The show premieres on HBO this month, October 18.
HBO is Dominating Comedy Right Now
It’s Florida, Man was created by Mark Herwick and Jeff Tomsic, who previously produced several TV specials, including HBO’s Metal Monsters: The Righteous Redeemer and Bert Kreischer: Razzle Dazzle, respectively. The upcoming comedy series will be executive produced by Danny McBride and Brandon James, whose previous HBO credits include The Righteous Gemstones and Eastbound & Down. If the trailer for It’s Florida, Man is any indication, the combination of reality TV and scripted comedy is a match made in heaven. And it’s not the only new and exciting HBO series coming from the popular genre.
