After three years of waiting patiently, we finally have our first official look at Tom Hardy and The Raid director Gareth Evans’ long-awaited Netflix action movie, Havoc. Hardy will be joined on this explosive adventure by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker and the star of Justified and The Mandalorian, Timothy Olyphant. Making up the rest of the supporting cast are Xelia Mendes-Jones, Justin Cornwell, Jessie Mei Li, Yeo Yann Yann, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Sunny Pang, and Michelle Waterson. Now, in a new interview with Empire (who also reveal the first look at the highly anticipated action movie which you can chekc out below), Evans promises that Havoc will be the worth the wait.
“It’s had a profound effect on the film. It allowed me to better streamline it, and make it what it was always intended to be, which is a blistering, fast-paced action-thriller with nods to the Hong Kong cinema that I grew up watching.”
“When it comes to a film called HAVOC, with me and Tom Hardy, we deliver on the action front. That’s the primary focus. But with Tom, what you get as well is an intensely muscular central performance, and really well-developed character. There’s a lot going on under the hood.”
Considering it’s been years, and with very few updates, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Hardy will lead an action movie on Netflix from The Raid filmmaker. Well, now that you’ve remembered (or learned about it for the first time), we shall allow you a few moments to gather yourself together after such an exciting revelation. Back with us? Excellent. Hardy, the Inception and Venom: The Last Dance star will take the lead in this wonderfully simple, no-nonsense action flick, with Evans teasing his character, saying, “He’s basically on clean-up duty and he has to navigate this broken city in order to get to him first. That’s the propulsive mission he goes on, and because it’s me, it doesn’t go well for a long time.” Netflix has also now revealed several images from the movie (check them out below!)
When Will Havoc Hit Netflix?
Havoc has been written and directed by Gareth Evans, and follows Hardy as a “bruised detective” who finds himself entering the criminal underworld in his search for a politician’s son. You can check out the synopsis for Havoc below.
After a drug deal gone wrong, a detective fights his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s son — unraveling a web of corruption and conspiracy ensnaring his entire city.

The news is sure to disappoint fans of the popular stealth action video game franchise.
Details of the release of Havoc have been as scarce as everything else to do with the movie, but director Gareth Evans recently took to Instagram to reveal that the movie is now expected to land on Netflix in the first quarter of 2025. See what Evans had to say about the production of the action movie below.
“Only the most glamorous of locations. But working with the best of friends. That’s a wrap on additional photography for Havoc. Massive thanks to cast and crew for their support and hard work over the past 2 weeks.
Next up…. 5-6months of post (editing, VFX, colour, sound) so we can make everything nice and shiny and loud ready for what will hopefully be a Q1 release next year No trailer, promo materials will be released before the film is finalised and mastered so in a bid to temper expectations – don’t expect anything before the new year.
Until then, excuse me while I crack on with work, posting about other people’s movies (do go see Longlegs!) and the occasional snap of my Labrador.”
