A scary clown wasn’t the only fright that and his costars had to face while filming .
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE tied to his partnership with for its , the actor, 21, recalls potentially seeing a spirit on the set of the 2017 horror film.
“I’ve , but ironically, I’ve never really seen a full-on ghost,” Wolfhard says, “but there was a time when I was a kid shooting It in this abandoned mansion in Toronto, and me and a bunch of the other cast were exploring the floors.”
“We went up to the top floor and there was one room where we saw a guy in black just kind of doing electrician work, and we were just like, ‘Okay, that’s just a crew member,’ ” he continues. “But then later, we found out that no one knew who that was, and no one ever saw him again.”
“It could have been someone just messing around, but, yeah, it was pretty scary,” adds the star — who has appeared in other horror-based projects, including , and , plus and .

In It, Wolfhard stars as Richie Tozier, a member of a group of friends known as The Losers Club who are terrorized by a demonic being that appears in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown ().

The first of a two-part adaptation of the 1986 novel of the same name by , 2017’s It was followed by It: Chapter Two, which was released in 2019.
In it, , , , Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone and Andy Bean take over as adult versions of The Losers Club, who come back to their hometown of Derry to fight Pennywise after a years-long slumber.
