Family Guy seems to be breaking a significant Stewie Griffin rule twenty-five years after its debut. Created by Seth MacFarlane, the series has been one of the most popular animated shows for the last two decades, often finding itself at the center of controversy, although that didn’t stop it from touching on sensitive issues.
The series revolves around the Griffins, which include Lois, the family’s hardworking mother, Peter, the household’s solitary man, albeit a bit clumsy at times, and their children, Meg, Chris, Stewie, and Brian, the latter of whom is a talking dog. Despite being on the air for so long, Family Guy has already set its sights on releasing the 23rd season in the Fall of 2024.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the panelists unveiled a few details regarding Family Guy Season 23. In particular, they mentioned that Lois will finally be able to understand Stewie in an episode, which will result in either further chaos or an emotional moment, considering Stewie despises Lois and is often plotting her death.
Borstein, Stewie’s voice actor, hinted at how the conversation between Lois and Stewie might unfold. In his words:
“Stewie accidentally finds some weed. The two are high together, and Lois can finally hear Stewie talk.”
Oftentimes, Family Guy depicts a unique relationship between Stewie and Lois, with the former exhibiting adult behavior while the latter failing to understand her youngest son. While it makes sense given that Stewie is just a toddler, it seems like Season 23 will finally break the language barrier between the two.
Stewie Has Been Understood By the Other Griffins
In Family Guy, the whole Griffin family is able to understand Brian, but not Stewie, who can be incredibly articulate at times. However, in some situations, some characters like Chris and Cleveland get what Stewie says. Initially, only Brian understood Stewie’s words, perhaps because he was a dog, but in later seasons, Chris often spoke with his younger brother.
“Everyone can understand Stewie, but since he is a child, no one takes him seriously.”
According to the show’s creator, everyone understands Stewie, but no one takes him seriously since he is a child. In truth, his interactions with Lois have been direct, but she has responded quite vaguely, further implying that she may have understood a few words but disregarded them, taking him for a typical toddler.

So, what exactly will the upcoming season do differently? If it is something like a conversation between Stewie and Brian, it would make sense that Family Guy is breaking a major rule by having mother and son understand one another. Furthermore, it will serve as a possibility to develop both characters, since Stewie is likely to develop a new fondness for his mother rather than plotting her death all over again.
Family Guy Season 23 will premiere on Hulu on October 2, 2024, and FOX on October 31, 2024, with a Halloween episode airing on October 14, 2024.
