Faith No More has not performed a proper show in nine years, and it looks like fans will have to wait even longer to see or hear from Mike Patton and the band.
While the group is not officially disbanded, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum provided an update on their status in a new Substack post, stating that the band is on a ‘semi-permanent hiatus.’
“I’ve made a life for myself making music. With Faith No More and then Imperial Teen. I live in NYC and I work with my boyfriend in a band called MAN ON MAN and two awesome friends in a band called CRICKETS and also sometimes the horror art project gnarl core Nastie Band. FNM is kind of on semi permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is making a record slowly but definitely,” the keyboardist wrote in his post.
“I wrote an opera about Sasquatch a couple years ago but I can talk about all those projects later. I’m here in anticipation of a book I’ve written, it’s a memoir called The Royal We. It’s my first foray into writing and it’s exciting and scary and a whole new world for me,” he added.
The situation for Faith No More turned quiet after the cancellation of their 2022 live dates. These shows were postponed in 2021 due to Mike Patton’s mental health challenges and struggles with agoraphobia.
Patton recovered enough to tour in 2022 with Mr. Bungle. However, there has been no news about Faith No More since the canceled 2022 shows. Patton has also been active with the thrash metal supergroup Dead Cross.
Faith No More’s last performance with Patton took place in October 2015 at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California. The other members of the band played a couple of shows in California in August 2016 with the late singer Chuck Mosley.
This coming May will mark ten years since Faith No More released their last album, ‘Sol Invictus,’ in 2015. That record came out 18 years after their previous one, ‘Album of the Year,’ in 1997.
Meanwhile, Bottum has been busy with his musical projects, particularly Man on Man. He formed the band with his partner Joey Holman during the pandemic. The duo has released two LPs, the latest being ‘Provincetown’ in 2023.
