Coronation Street star Jude Riordan has confirmed plans for the show to revisit his character Sam Blakeman’s bond with Hope Stape.
Sam and Hope agreed to become boyfriend and girlfriend earlier this year, but things turned sour for the youngsters after newcomer Eliza Woodrow entered their friendship group.
Hope struggled with jealousy as Sam bonded with Eliza, so she spitefully sabotaged a science experiment during Eliza’s birthday party, causing a fire. Sam was appalled by her behaviour and declared that they were over.
Jude reflected on the storyline while taking part in an Inside Soap magazine photoshoot to celebrate Corrie‘s nominations at the Inside Soap Awards 2023.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive video access to the shoot and spoke to each of the cast involved.
Speaking about Sam’s future, Jude told Digital Spy: “Since Sam and Hope broke up, there’s been a space between them. But as it goes on, they’re going to start getting closer together again.”
On the real-life dynamic for the younger cast, he added: “We’re all good friends! The main people I’m working with at the moment are Bella [Flanagan, who plays Hope] and Savannah [Kunyo, who plays Eliza]. We have a little trio.
“Obviously we also now have Billie [Naylor] who plays Ruby – she’s a new addition and we’re all friends.”

Jude has been nominated for the Best Young Performer prize at the Inside Soap Awards and spoke about his pride at being in the running.
He said: “I don’t make it a big deal but it’s just a nice feeling to be nominated. If I win that’ll be great but just being nominated is amazing.”
Earlier this year, Corrie‘s producer Iain MacLeod spoke about plans to make Sam and Hope a major new double act in the show.
He told ITV’s Loose Women in February: “Hope and Sam, we’re taking as our benchmark ‘PJ and Duncan’. What if we can take these kids that are, like, 10 and grow them for a decade into this incredibly rich friendship?
“That’s what we’re hoping to do – obviously both of those actors are so talented that they might very well be off to Hollywood by the time they’re 14. But if we can keep them, we’re trying to PJ and Duncan them up.”
