After more than four decades in the business, Billy Crystal is still going strong, and his new Apple TV+ series Before proves it. As someone who’s spent the bulk of his career in comedic roles, Crystal’s dark turn in the psychological thriller has been a sight to behold, and showcases that the 76-year-old star still has what it takes to command a scene, no matter the genre.
Premiering on Oct. 25 with its first two episodes, we have an exclusive clip for fans from Episode 3 of Before (seen below), which gives us a glimpse into what we can expect as the series moves toward its conclusion on Dec. 20. With the last episode featuring an MRI gone awry, a bleeding nose, and Eli trashing his apartment, the next one promises to up the ante even more as frustrations both internal and external continue to build.

Billy Crystal Explains His Dramatic Thriller Before with Young Co-Star Jacobi Jupe
Legendary comedian Billy Crystal discusses his dramatic turn in the spooky psychological thriller Before on Apple TV+.
Created by Sarah Thorp, Before stars Crystal as child psychologist Eli Adler, a man with a complicated past whose wife (Judith Light) died by suicide, leaving him a grieving mess. He takes on a new client in Noah (Jacobi Jupe), a creepy young mute boy who seems just as detached from life as he is, but yet shares a mysterious connection to Eli’s past. Also featuring Rosie Perez and Maria Dizzia, Before is the perfect blend of drama, thrills, and horror, all mixed together to deliver a compelling series that’s perfect to start watching in time for Halloween.
Before Episode 3, ‘The Liar,’ Promises to Continue the Mystery
Seen in MovieWeb’s exclusive clip from Before Episode 3, “The Liar,” are Crystal and Jupe sharing the screen together as the child psychologist tries to break through to his young client, and find out what’s in his head. Prone to hallucinations, Noah watches in horror as Eli continuously clicks a pen, triggering something in the boy’s brain that causes him to witness the ceiling above turn to ice and begin to crack. As Eli encourages him to draw what he sees, the scene takes an even darker turn as Noah frantically scribbles on paper, ending with him revealing a crude portrait of someone with a knife being held to their throat.
While kids are often naturally creepy, Before is clearly kicking things up a notch to delve deep into the genre trope, and after seeing what’s to come, we can’t wait to find out how else it manages to explore both psyches of Eli and Noah, and further unravels the threads that tie them together. Check out Before Episode 3, “The Liar,” when it premieres on Apple TV+ on Nov. 1.
