Melvins rocker Buzz Osborne shared his thoughts on Jimi Hendrix.
In the new issue of Total Guitar, the rocker talked about the legendary guitarist’s techniques. Although Osborne acknowledges that Hendrix is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists in history, he thinks Hendrix’s technique is ‘wrong,’ and ‘played weird’:
“In lots of circles, Hendrix is considered the greatest guitar player ever. But there’s not a guitar teacher in the world that would ever teach anyone to play a guitar like that.”
Not only that, he did add that everything Hendrix played was ‘out of tune’:
“It doesn’t make any sense. Hendrix played weird! His technique is wrong. Everything is out of tune, everything is wrong, but he’s the best. If he’s the best, then wouldn’t you want to teach people that sensibility?”
‘Everyone Likes Hendrix’
In another interview, the rocker was asked to name a few of his favorite guitarists. In response, he said he could have named Jimi Hendrix but it would be ‘too easy’ since ‘everyone likes’ him. He also added a few more names to those that ‘everyone likes’:
“Of course, I could fill countless playlists with the likes of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, and Jimmy Page but that would be too easy. Everyone likes those guys.”
Instead of those names, the rocker mentioned names like James Honeyman-Scott, Dave Shepherd, Dave Davies, Eddie Hazel and Robin Trower. He also added that he didn’t care Trower sounded like Hendrix, and that ‘Bridge of Sighs’ was one of the most soulful songs ever.
