We spoke with Eric Dane amid the release of his new film One Fast Move, where he plays the estranged father of an ex-con motorcycle racer played by KJ Apa (Riverdale). Known best for his acclaimed turn on ABC’s hit series Grey’s Anatomy and later The Last Ship, Dane reentered the spotlight more recently as a troubled father in another groundbreaking show: Euphoria on HBO. “I guess I’m at that point in my life where I’m playing the dad. I’ve been doing it a lot lately,” he told MovieWeb. “I may be past the moment when people want to see me kiss the girl, you know? So now, I’m just the dad.”

Soon after rumors swirled that Zendaya was feuding with the show’s creator, news broke that Euphoria is finally coming together for a third season. Dane was quick to express his excitement to continue with his character Cal’s journey. “I’m so glad that show’s coming back,” he said. “I know we’re supposed to be talking about One Fast Move, but thank God that show’s coming back.” Dane was also able to provide a quick tease of what’s to come with season 3, at least from a behind-the-scenes vantage point:

We put it back together, and everybody’s getting along in the sandbox
, and we’re there. I guess they’re working on scripts and, I don’t know, more probably in the next couple months. But right now,
all I know for a fact 100% is that we are shooting a season 3, and we are starting in January

Shifting gears to prepare for One Fast Move, Dane confirmed to us that he was already a motorcycle enthusiast before joining this project, and he still rides now and again, so he didn’t really need to prepare in that regard. He was ready for the filmmakers and crew. “They captured the speed really well, the pace at which these guys are riding these bikes around this track. And when you have to fake it, it’s so easy to make it look slow, you know? And these guys really did a great job with the stunt riding,” explained Dane, who added:
We had great stunt riders. We had amazing riders, but they did a great job capturing the speed. I think, in that regard, it’s a fun movie to watch if you […] want to see some of the action surrounding that world. They did a good job recreating it.

Beyond the sports component of One Fast Move, the complicated emotional connections between father and son fascinated Dane. “It was important for me to just sort of address the circumstances,” he said. “I really dug the dynamics between Dean and Wes. And for whatever reason, there’s a therapeutic element to it, but there’s also just a great story.” He continued:
“These are great characters that need to be serviced in a way that allows for a redemptive quality to this story. And I think that’s what we were both going for, not necessarily the Wes character as much as the Dean character, but the Dean character gets to experience some redemption, you know, which is always beautiful.
That’s what we want. We want broken people. We want to watch broken people heal themselves.
”
