Eric Clapton recently paid tribute to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, but it got mixed reactions.
After nearly nine years at Anfield, the German manager is saying farewell next weekend. Since his announcement in January, many have paid tribute to Klopp, including Clapton.
During the guitarist’s show in Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on May 11, Clapton started playing the opening of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ Liverpool F.C.’s anthem. However, not everyone was thrilled since the crowd was a mix of Liverpool and Everton fans. Some Everton supporters even booed.
Even though the musician got mixed reactions from the audience, Clapton ended the song with a shout-out:
“For Jurgen!”
Klopp’s Upcoming Farewell Event
Klopp will soon be saying goodbye to Liverpool, his home for the past nine years. The German manager will have a special event held in his honor later this month. ‘An Evening with Jurgen Klopp & Special Guests’ is set for Tuesday, May 28 at the M&S Bank Arena, the same place where Clapton recently performed.
The party will include live music from local bands like The Lightning Seeds and The Zutons and a performance by tenor Alfie Boe.
