Jane’s Addiction might be coming to an end.
Bassist Eric Avery sat down with Goldmine Mag for a new interview and discussed the band’s future and the possibility of releasing new music.
“Well, that is to be determined, because there has been really, really promising writing happening,” Avery said before talking about the ideas the members have now. “We have a lot of ideas that are in different sort of stages of completion. Actually, in the interview before just now, I was asked about the future, and would there be an album in the next year? I think I just came up with the right answer, which is I think if there is a band next year, then there will be new music.”
The bassist also explained why he thinks the band might not continue next year: “So I can’t promise that there will still be a Jane’s Addiction next year, but I can say that if there is, there will be new music there. And that’s because we have a lot of ideas at different stages of completion now, and we’re excited about coming back to town after the leg and digging back into writing. That’s where — especially Dave — has really flourished and been really most inspired and most changed, actually, from the past. So we’d be anxious to get to writing some more, and just being creative and getting it down. So yeah, let’s hope that there’s a new album.”
Jane’s Addiction hadn’t been active since their last ever show in 2010. That changed when they made a comeback in May this year. The original band members reunited for a show at London’s Bush Hall on May 23, and Dave Narravo’s return received positive feedback from fans.
The rockers also released a new song titled ‘Imminent Redemption.’ The band started teasing the song back in May during a small show at Bush Hall in London and officially announced its release on July 17.
“It is different this time. To have everyone back together, releasing new music. It’s time. Welcome to the next chapter of Jane’s Addiction. ‘Imminent Redemption’ is only the beginning,” the band wrote about the new song in a statement on Instagram.
Even with the new song and the recent comeback, Jane’s Addiction might not reunite permanently. Only time will tell.
