Slipknot drummer Eloy Casagrande sat down with Red Maggotz for a new interview and discussed drumming for his new band.
During the chat, the rocker revealed how Slipknot never wanted him to change the way he plays the drums and that they wanted to hear his ‘Brazilian roots’:
“My Brazilian Roots will be always with me I can’t even remove that in my mind, it’s part of me it’s part of who I am. I cannot come up on Slipknot and say, ‘Guys I’m a metal drummer now. From now on only metal techniques.’ I cannot do that, that’s not my essence and even the guys in Slipknot don’t want that they do want my essence my roots my brother Brazilian Roots, especially on our new songs.”
He added that the band always respected that he couldn’t hide his roots:
“That’s who I am, I cannot hide my roots, my essence to just fill in in a band to be just a drummer, and the guys respect that. They never even in a moment said to me to be a different person than I am even with their songs. They never tell me how and what to play, to be specific with their songs, with a live version studio version, they never said anything about it they gave me all the freedom.”
A New Album Is In The Works
Casagrande got the first audition call from Slipknot’s manager in December 2023, after his band Sepultura announced a farewell tour for their 40th anniversary.
The rocker left Sepultura two months after he received the call. Two months later, Slipknot performed their first show with Casagrande at Pappy & Harriet’s Palace in California. They officially announced him as their new drummer shortly after.
The drummer spoke about his experience in the band in an interview last month and revealed that Slipknot has been working on new songs:
“I’m still trying to understand how the dynamics of the band work, it’s not so clear yet how things work in terms of records and new songs. We’ve written a few things, and they’re shelved for the time being. We have a gig on the 12th and we’re going to spend a few days there, exchanging musical ideas. For the time being, I don’t think there’s any pressure to record new material. But I’m sure they want to, I don’t know when, because right now the band is focused on celebrating its 25th anniversary.”
In addition to the new material, Slipknot confirmed the fan rumors about a song named ‘Long May You Die’ last month with an Instagram post. It’s still unclear when it is coming out, though.
