Eddie Vedder recently talked to MOJO Magazine ahead of the upcoming release of Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album, ‘Dark Matter.’ He reflected on losing friends like Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan, and Layne Staley through the years:
“[At this stage] you lean on the relationships with the people who are still around. It really hits you when you are in a situation where that person would be there. And you’re sad for them that they’re not.”
The singer said that Pearl Jam wanted to continue making music despite the losses. He suggested that the band has plans for more projects after ‘Dark Matter.’ His words read:
“But it makes you realize you gotta be healthy. You want to be around for your kids. You want to make good records. We might have one or two left.”
A New Album Is On The Way
Pearl Jam released a new single titled ‘Running’ from the upcoming album last week. Stone Gossard shared that bassist Jeff Ament wrote the main riffs for it. He told SPIN:
“Jeff had the main parts for that one, and we worked it over as a band. I love the bridge. I don’t know what the hell those chords are that [guitarist] Mike [McCready]’s playing, but it sounds original.”
‘Dark Matter’ will come out on April 19 under Monkeywrench Records.
There’s Also A Special Event
The band will celebrate the new record with a one-night event on April 16. ‘Dark Matter – Global Theatrical Experience’ will be available in over 225 locations across the country. Some of the theaters include AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Landmark, Marcus, and Cinepolis.
Pearl Jam is also gearing up for a world tour in summer and fall. Their first stop will be in Vancouver, Canada, on May 4.
