Heather Peace, who stars as Eve Unwin on the BBC soap, has opened up about her character’s new storyline and teased Suki’s role in things.
Recent episodes have seen Eve come face to face with Caz, the woman who killed her twin sister, and it’s fair to say Eve hasn’t reacted well to the encounter.
Next week, Eve continues to drink heavily and her former lover Suki finds her sleeping rough on a bench.

Asked if this is Eve’s lowest ebb since the death of her sister, Peace said: “Absolutely, I don’t think she knows what to do at all, and the fact she keeps drinking as well means she’s not getting any clarity of thought.”
Despite breaking things off with Eve earlier this year after feeling pressured to stay with her villainous husband, Suki supports Eve.
“That deep connection between the two is always there, but this is the first time that their relationship isn’t at the forefront of Eve’s mind,” explained Peace.
“It’s the first time that we see that there is something bigger than that for her. It’s not in her mind at all, but it makes sense that it’s her soul mate who finds her, and Eve can talk very openly to Suki.”
Suki later accompanies Eve to the police station where Eve is devastated to be told that despite new information, Caz has served her time and the case is closed. Eve then heads to The Albert to drink some more. This leads to Suki enlisting the help of Stacey.

“It’s great to see Suki and Stacey band together to rescue Eve, and it’s a nice dynamic between them,” Peace said.
“I love both of those relationships. They are so precious on two completely different levels. These are the two loves of her life – one being platonic and the other the romantic love of her life. They are similar relationships and completely different at the same time.”
On the storyline itself, Peace added: “It was interesting for me to go back to explore that darker side of Eve. It’s the reason why her entire world collapsed, and there’s a lot more in her back story that we could look at.”
EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
