Duff McKagan has been working both on his Guns N Roses and solo career but refuses to compete with the band.
In a new chat with Guitar Interactive, the bassist chatted about his solo works. “I don’t want to clog the way of the next Guns thing. So you gotta do it in between. I’m not trying to compete with Guns or, you know, any of that kind of crap. This is totally different music,” he explained.
“I just finished tracking. I’m doing vocals now on 15 more. And there’s so many songs,” he added about his upcoming solo works. While he still works on new music on his solo projects, the rocker earlier shared that new Guns N Roses music is on the way too.
“I don’t know when I’ll put [my new solo stuff] out because there’s more Guns stuff to come here sooner than later. So I don’t wanna put out a record while Guns is doing a thing. I try to stagger all of that stuff. So when that record will come out, the next record, I don’t know. I could just put three records out at one time, but that’d be too much.”
Slash also mentioned that the band has been working on a new album. When the Daily Star asked why Axl Rose or his Conspirators collaborator Myles Kennedy didn’t appear on his recent solo album, ‘Orgy of the Damned,’ he explained: “Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record. And I’m working with them in that capacity, but this [solo album] didn’t involve anyone else. It was my own side thing, so I wasn’t dragging my own guys in.”
The rocker also mentioned that there were some tracks that have been recorded during the pandemic and that the band was planning to release them as well as new songs.
Guns N’ Roses put out a four-song EP called ‘Hard Skool’ in February 2022. It was available only in their official store and included two new songs from 2021—the title track and ‘Absurd’—plus live versions of ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘You’re Crazy.’
In other news, McKagan released a new original song called ‘True To The Death Rock N’ Roll Ballad,’ and a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ two weeks ago.
