Keanu Reeves won’t be checking back into The Continental anytime soon says Chad Stahelski, as the acclaimed director has another disappointing update about John Wick 5. A fifth installment was always unlikely considering the definitive ending to John Wick: Chapter 4, which was released last year. However, in the modern age of major franchises, few popular characters stay dead for very long. Fans have been developing a pipe dream of John Wick 5 from the moment the credits rolled on the fourth chapter. While Stahelski isn’t completely ruling out the possibility, he says it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
“When you fall in love you fall in love. I’m in love with John Wick. I’m in love with the process and the story,” Chad Stahelski told Business Insider. It is clear that the director’s, and Keanu Reeves’ passion for John Wick still burns brightly. However, the pair are unanimous about not wanting to make an unnecessary fifth movie just to appease some fans. Stahelski did state that, should a good idea come to him, it is almost guaranteed that Keanu Reeves would be on board for a fifth movie. He explained:
“Keanu and I are both like,
if we wake up tomorrow and there’s a good idea, we’re doing it.
You can bet your ass.”
However, the director is adamant about making a fifth movie for the right reasons. To bring John Wick back from the dead after Chapter 4 gave the character an incredible send-off would require a phenomenal story to not make the new installment feel like a lazy cash grab. Chad Stahelski unfortunately confirmed that the idea for another movie just doesn’t exist right now. He continued:
“If we felt we weren’t ripping the fans off and had more to give, I’d do it tomorrow.
I just don’t have that right now.
“
Chad Stahelski Might Be Too Busy for John Wick 5
There’s another major problem facing the fifth John Wick installment: Chad Stahelski’s current workload. As well as having to think about ideas for another installment of the acclaimed, genre-redefining franchise, Stahelski is helming some reboots and adaptations of beloved franchises.
Next in the pipeline for the former stunt-performer turned director is the Henry Cavill-led Highlander reboot. The project is currently in pre-production and scheduled to begin shooting in January 2025 in Scotland. Best known for his work on the John Wick franchise, Stahelski promises a similar style of action for Highlander, albeit without the guns. The director revealed that his team are developing a “new look of action” for Highlander‘s epic sword fights.

Anthony Mackie believes he’ll be a ‘cool dad’ with a 5-minute fight scene in Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 5.
Chad Stahelski will then be sticking with swords as he’s bringing the beloved Playstation game, Ghost of Tsushima, to life on the big screen. The project has had very few updates recently, although it has been confirmed to still be in development. For fans who cannot wait for Stahelski’s adaptation, the video game will receive its own short film in the upcoming animated anthology series, Next Level. In addition to all this, the John Wick franchise looks to be getting a new animated prequel, which will be another expansion of the popular action franchise.
