Fear Factory founder Dino Cazares recently compared the two vocalists, Burton C. Bell and Milo Silvestro.
Since the departure of Bell, the band finally revealed their new vocalist to be Silvestro after a three-year gap. The band held an audition that included 300 different vocalists to ultimately choose Silvestro.
With the new addition to the band, Carazes was asked if Silvestro has brought a new energy to the California metal act. He told Brutal Planet Magazine:
“Yes and no. I’ve always had the fire. I don’t need anybody to bring me new energy, but it does feel good when you have somebody who can match the energy that you have.”
The guitarist then revealed his former bandmate’s attitude:
“Because for a while there, I just felt that — and I’m speaking off the cuff here — that Burton C. Bell was just kind of phoning things in; he was just kind of going through the motions, and it just felt like he didn’t wanna be there. And so it was kind of lacking. The band was going down for a little while.”
The rocker referred to the current vocalist as somebody ‘who wanted to be there’ with the band. He added:
“And as soon as Milo came in, it was a breath of fresh air to play with somebody who wanted to be there. And that felt really good. And, of course, all the trolls are gonna come after me for saying that, but it is what it is. I mean, I lived through it. I was there.”
Cazares also revealed that everybody was asking him whether or not Silvestro brought energy to the band, to which he always replied affirmatively.
Bell departed from the band in September 2020, later stating that it was a hard decision to make. The former vocalist cited the legal dispute between members of the original line-up, himself, Cazares, bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, and drummer Raymond Herrera; over the ownership of the name ‘Fear Factory.’
The band is planning to record and release a new album in 2024. The details are yet to come.
