Demi Moore looked to the world of home décor for the 2024 Met Gala.
The 61-year-old actress walked the Met steps on May 6 in an elegant structural gown by Harris Reed, marking the first time Moore has attended the event in five years.
Moore’s black column gown featured a pink-and-white floral design and a spiked, heart-shaped structural element. She accessorized with diamond jewelry by Cartier.
Her sleek hair and soft makeup — courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury — let her dramatic ensemble take the spotlight.
Speaking with Ashley Graham on the Vogue red carpet, Moore said her dress was “not heavy at all” and in fact, it made her “want to rumba.”
Reed also shared that Moore’s gown was made of wallpaper.
“It all started with this incredible Cartier necklace that Demi is wearing,” the designer told Graham. “It was inspired by the floral feeling it gave me. The whole piece is made out of vintage archival wallpaper. We repurposed it. It’s 11,000 hours of silk embroidery that we’ve repurposed into this idea of her blooming on the carpet. I wanted to be the vines to her thorns.”
Moore added that the flower on her gown is chloris, “which is [named for the] Greek . . . nymph of plants and flowers.”
Moore recently showed off her figure in a teeny-tiny leopard bikini while on vacation with her family. In a clip shared by the star, her daughters (whom she shares with ex-husband Bruce Willis) Tallulah, 30, Scout, 32, Rumer, 35, plus Rumer’s 1-year-old daughter Louetta, family friends Patrick Hilgårt and Eric Buterbaugh and Moore’s dog, Pilaf, enjoyed the sunny weather on the beach.
The 2024 Met Gala theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” ties into the upcoming Costume Institute exhibit that will feature approximately 250 items — including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown — that span more than 400 years of history.
According to Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, the exhibition will be shaped around three main “zones” — Land, Sea, and Sky — that pay tribute to the natural world. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” he said.
