Dee Snider hates Spotify because he feels the owner disrespects artists and pays them very little.
The singer recently revealed on X that he has a playlist consisting of his guilty pleasure songs. When a user commented that he should make it a Spotify list and share it with the fans, Snider replied:
“I would but I HATE Spotify for the owner’s disrespect and condescension toward the creatives. They pay absolute dog sh*t to the artists and his response to that accusation is ‘If they want more money they should put out more music.’ Like it’s a production line! F*cking d*ck!”
Snider’s Earlier Statements On Spotify
This isn’t the first time Dee voiced his opposition to Spotify. Last December, Snider was on the Jeremy White Show and criticized Spotify CEO Daniel Ek. He said Ek deserved severe punishment for hurting musicians. Snider talked about the financial problems musicians face, explaining:
“That guy from Spotify. I wanna tell you, he should be taken out and shot. When he heard that artists were complaining about how little we get paid, his response was ‘make more music’ — like we’re producing cans of Coke. Just [increase] the production. [It’s] insulting and belittling.”
Snider also reflected on how musicians like him can still make money from their music:
“For me, it’s licensing. The licensing is the last godsend, the last oasis where you can actually make some money. Steven Spielberg chooses [Twisted Sister’s] ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ for the finale of [his movie] ‘Ready Player One.’ Thank you, God, ’cause I’m not getting anything from Spotify.”
Snider Isn’t The Only Artist Who Hates Spotify
Cinderella’s Fred Coury is also among the artists who don’t like Spotify. In June, Music journalist Mitch Lafon shared the drummer’s comments about Spotify on X. Coury responded to CEO Daniel Ek and called Spotify the biggest threat to the music industry today:
“If you use Spotify, you’re part of the problem. Period. Until Ek matches the rest, he’s the biggest threat to our craft there is. You can discover new music on all streamers. And forget about ‘physical product.’ That’s never coming back. A subscriber is a subscriber.”
On the other hand, Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows supports Spotify despite its challenges for artists. He praised its user-friendly system but criticized it for not helping artists connect with fans or make extra money.
