Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool relishes breaking the fourth wall with viewers, so it should be no surprise that the soundtrack for Deadpool & Wolverine will break the fourth wall with listeners. The film, which also stars Hugh Jackman, is the third entry in the Deadpool film series, which prides itself in featuring odd musical choices for its films. The soundtrack, which releases on July 24, has revealed its tracklist of songs, including a tune swiped from another Jackman film, the 2017 musical The Greatest Showman.
The official Deadpool social media account has now released the tracklist for the MCU outing, and it features a hodgepodge of artists and musical genres reaching back as far as the 1950s. In the album’s playlist are a number of recognizable hits from the past, with one song that stands out from the rest: “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman soundtrack. It looks like the film will use the song to break the fourth wall and either mock or praise (more likely mock, this is Deadpool after all) Jackman’s impressive stage career, which includes some incredible work in musicals.
You can check out the details about the soundtrack below, which also offers a new look at Deadpool, Wolverine, and Dogpool.
The song not only features Jackman, but the film’s other stars: Zac Efron, Keala Settle, and Zendaya. How the song will fit into Deadpool & Wolverine remains to be seen, but it may reference a scene that Reynolds insists isn’t in the movie. During the film’s recent press tour, Reynolds said a musical number for Jackman was included in an early draft of the film, but deleted. The song could be used as a fourth wall-breaking reference to Jackman’s musical talents, or it could mean Jackman sings the song himself. One can only wonder, at least until July 26, when the movie releases.

The Deadpool & Wolverine Soundtrack Provides Possible Clues
Both Reynolds and Jackman, as well as director Shawn Levy, have discussed the efforts made to keep all the cameos and plot twists in Deadpool & Wolverine secret. They insist that, even with the leaks and revelations so far, there are still plenty of surprises waiting for moviegoers. However, the soundtrack could provide some clues to scenes we don’t know about yet. Many of the songs appear to be catchy tunes included just to spice up the action, in the same way Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” played over the first major fight scene in Deadpool 2. “Angel of the Morning” by Merrilee Rush was included over the first film’s opening credits, and it is likely used again in the third film for the same purpose, given its placement in the tracklist.
The use of Chris de Burgh’s “Lady in Red,” meanwhile, seems an obvious choice for the introduction of Lady Deadpool, who we know is in the film. As it is midway through TheShockNews, that likely means one of the film’s biggest cameo secrets – who plays the character – will be answered about midway through the film. In addition, the use of Green Day’s “Time of Your Life” at the end of TheShockNews would indicate that it is the music for the film’s finale, a fitting choice if indeed this turns out to be the Marvel heroes’ only cinematic team up.
Finally, the inclusion of the Grease hit “You’re the One That I Want” near the end of TheShockNews could indicate that Reynolds’ Wade does get a happliy-ever-after moment with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), which seems to be a central plot point to the whole film.
