Deadpool & Wolverine featured Hugh Jackman sporting several comic-accurate outfits, but the film did not include any more Wolverine variants because of budget restraints. Although the different Wolverines only show up during a brief montage early on in the movie, the cost of including them outweighed their interest in adding more suits for Jackman to wear. This is especially true when Deadpool attempts to recruit a Wolverine wearing the fan-favorite brown and tan suit ripped straight from the source material.
During an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Deadpool & Wolverine editor Dean Zimmerman revealed that there were around 10 total Wolverine variants in the works at one point. Previously released concept art included a Weapon X version of the superhero, which appeared briefly in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, Zimmerman says that the budget requirements of pulling off each one meant the film could only pick and choose a handful. He gives the brown and tan suit as an example, revealing that the comic-accurate outfit worn by Jackman had a six-figure price tag.
“Here’s a perfect example: that brown and tan [suit], we spent about $100,000 building that. They’re expensive… We had to get a little economical with what we could come up with and do. ‘Hugh, can you take your shirt off and be bolted to a cross? Yeah, I can do that. No problem.’… ‘Can you be an old man? Sure.'”
The suit in question is the one Jackman wears when Deadpool travels to a timeline that has Wolverine about to fight the Hulk, replicating an iconic comic book cover in the process. Out of the handful of Logan variant cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, the brown suit gets the most screen time. Moreover, it’s arguably the best one worn by any character throughout the entire film, and that’s counting the long-awaited blue and yellow costume. Due to the hefty price, it would only make sense that we’d see Jackman wear it again at some point, right? If not, fans may have to riot.
Will We Ever See the Brown Wolverine Suit Again?
As fans of Deadpool & Wolverine are well aware of, Jackman ends up sporting a few iconic comic book looks in the film. In addition to the suit made famous in John Byrne’s X-Men run, the film includes homages to Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse, House of X, and Henry Cavill as the Cavillerine. Each variant only appears for a brief moment, but there is a real possibility we could see them on the big screen again. The latest rumors point to Jackman being the main Wolverine of the MCU going forward, at least until they reboot the X-Men team. And since there is a good chance he appears in Avengers: Secret Wars, there remains hope that the brown and tan suit can make its way back sooner rather than later.

Among the many versions of Wolverine that have been revealed in Deadpool & Wolverine concept art, a more complete version of the brown suit nearly made it to film. Although Jackman eventually puts on the yellow and blue mask, the Deadpool sequel originally envisioned the $100k costume sporting a comic-accurate mask. Of course, this omission was likely due to the budget, and the fact the film wanted to keep the mask reveal a secret until the very end. Still, that’s simply more reason to revisit the iconic suit whenever Jackman is back on screen (Secret Wars or otherwise).
